We believe that Real Sociedad will finish in a respectable 9th Place for the upcoming season.
Ending the 2014/15 season in 12th wasn’t what the club wanted seeing as they had finished 4th and 7th in their previous two campaigns. After being in 15th place in early November, the club had finally had enough of manager Jagoba Arrasate after his 16 months at the helm. They sacked him and found their new manager David Moyes a week later. Moyes has a hard job to do as they were not safe from relegation. After 4 points in his first 2 games, Moyes looked like he was the perfect man for the job. However, towards the end of the season, Moyes and his men began to lose way to many points to finish anywhere in the table. During games, David Moyes was getting slatted from the Sociedad fans even though he had done a decent job with he club improving what the previous mage did. Mexican forward Carlos Vela finished the season as the clubs top scorer with 9 league goals. Obviously this isn’t a huge amount of goals for a club that want to push for success but seeing as Vela is only 26 years old, the forward still hasn’t hit the peak his career.
With two of Sociedad’s first three games being against newly promoted Real Betis and Sporting Gijon, the club will be looking to excel forward into the higher places of the table. This will give them high confidence when playing the bigger teams such as Barcelona and both Madrid teams. After nearly 9 months in charge, David Moyes would have finally settled down into he club which will help the teams morale. With Bruma and Diego Reyes both completing a season long loan at the club, Moyes looks to add more talent to his team which would help him push the club further up the table next campaign.
For me, Carlos Vela is going to be Sociedad’s key player for the upcoming season. With him missing over two months of last season injured, the Mexican, 26, still has lots of game-time ahead of him. I reckon that Vela will score 15+ league goals during the 2015/16 season. The most goals in a season he has scored was back in 2013/14 when he was on loan at Real Sociedad. This shows why there is no doubt in the Mexican being able to score 15+ goals next campaign. Although he is wanted by many other teams such as West Ham, Arsenal etc, i still believe that he will have at least one more full season at the Basque club. Although Vela will be the key player to Real Sociedad, there are players such as Inigo Martinez, Imanol Agirretxe and if he settles in well, loanee Bruma will all help to make the upcoming season a success.
The one thing that Real Sociedad need in their squad is a bit of experience. They currently have 3 players that are aged 30+. That compared to last years champions Barcelona who had 7 players that age shows that experience helps win games which helps you win titles. Ex Everton central defender Antolin Alcarez, never managed by Moyes, was recently released by Everton after a two year spell there. In my opinion, he would be a great squad player that Sociedad could sign on a free transfer. He sat on the bench most of his time at Everton but could break into Sociedad’s first team, especially with Inigo Martinez linked with a potential move away this summer.
