Having offloaded Javier Hernandez, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao, Manchester United needed a striker to step up to the plate, and they have found him.
Martial arrived at the Red Devils on transfer deadline day for £36million from Monaco, making him the most expensive teenager in history. He may not be able to speak English but he has fitted into the team in every other aspect.
The 19-year-old announced himself to the Old Trafford faithful with a superb solo effort against Liverpool on his debut and has followed it up with another three goals. He has been rewarded for his stellar form with a nomination for the Premier League PFA Fans’ Player of the Month.
There is certainly no stopping the Frenchman who is not short of confidence. As well as scoring he is also assisting. Martial set up Rooney’s goal at the weekend to help his team win 3-0 against a lacklustre Sunderland. Bagging man of the match too, United fans will be excited to see what more he has in his locker.
One player that has praised the youngster is Chris Smalling:
“If you could ask for a moment to announce yourself on the world stage, it would be in a massive game like Liverpool at home,” Smalling said.
“It was a great moment and a lot of people took notice of how well he dribbled at players, how direct he was and how he took his goal.
“That’s something we’ve needed this season. He continued his good form by scoring twice at Southampton and again against Ipswich, so he’s enjoyed a great start to his United career.
United host Wolfsburg tonight in the Champions League, which will be a tough test for Van Gaal’s red devils.
What do you think, can Martial continue his form this season?
