Manchester United’s hopes of signing German defender Mats Hummels have been boosted after he is expected to hand in a transfer request this season.
The Borussia Dortmund centre back has apparently fallen out with club boss Thomas Tuchel that has further sparked that a definite move is on the cards.
Louis Van Gaal wanted to sign the big German last summer and the news is expected to again reignite United’s interest in capturing him, more so now that he is willing to move away from Germany.
With United’s recent defensive problems, albeit the new centre back partnership of Chris Smalling and Daley Blind that has settled things, they will be quick to make a move and this would certainly shore up the back four.
Along with Smalling and Blind there is Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones, but with injuries and a lack of a world-class defender, Hummels would be the perfect fit and this may see United seal a deal this January for him to join next summer.
The 26-year-old still has 18 months remaining on his contract which means United may have to offer a big sum of money in order to get him, but with a World Cup winners medal to his name and two Bundesliga titles, every penny will count.
His experience, solid performances and leadership will certainly boost the whole United squad, and with a big player such as himself in the dressing room, he could be the man to lead the Red Devils back to winning the Premier League.
