With the transfer window recently opened its time for clubs to look for new acquisitions. None more than Liverpool football club, who have this season been struck with a catalogue of injuries including the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Divock Origi. In last nights game Liverpool started the match against Arsenal without a known striker which causes concern amongst their fans as where are they going to score their goals from?
Looking at Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool’s needs, a striker has to be high on their list as with three of their key goalscorers out with injury, they cannot afford to rely on Christian Benteke every game to lead the line. Good strikers are hard to come by these days but with the reputation Liverpool Football club have I don’t think they will find it hard in their search for a new striker. Mario Gotze has been linked with Liverpool recently but he is not an out an out striker which is not what they need, as they already have Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho amongst their squad. I feel as though Liverpool should chase a big name player, which they have seemed to be missing since Luis Suarez left the club to join Barcelona back in 2014. A standout name in the word of football is Marco Reus which in my opinion I feel Liverpool need now more than ever as Klopp has had experience with Reus and could persuade him to join the much coverted club.
Another position that Liverpool could look at during the January transfer window is a solid centre back as the injuries suffered from Kolo Toure and Dejan Lovren recently, had left them short for a period of time. The recent acquirement of Steven Caulker on a loan to end of the season from QPR shows that they are looking to bolster there defence. In addition to this they have recently been linked with the 24 year old Schalke centre back Joel Matip who shows a lot of promise. This would be an astute signing from Liverpool as he his a tall young centre defensive player who has the right build and attitude to become a leading performer in the Barclays Premier League. However this deal will be not be concluded till the end of the season as Liverpool are rumoured to have signed a pre contract agreement with the Cameroonian centre back which means he won’t be available to play for the club until the start of the 2016/2017 season. This could could suggest that Caulker is only here on stand by until the end of the season when Joel Matip is available to play.
Overall my impression is that Liverpool will do most of their business at the end of the season when the summer transfer window starts. This could then lead to a demising season for Liverpool and ensure that they are not as successful as they could of been if they had of acquired some new players. If they do not do something about their striker issues, then I fear that they will struggle to score the goals they need in order for them to push up near the Champions League places. On the other hand with Jurgen Klopp at the helm I feel Liverpool have a passionate leader who wants to win and create a legacy at the club which cannot hinder them. With the transfer window however anything can happen.
