Mathieu Debuchy has joined Bordeaux on loan till the end of the season from Arsenal after the two clubs agreed a deal to take the French right back to his home country. Debuchy himself had been linked with multiple clubs such as Aston Villa, Sunderland and Manchester United this window but has instead chosen the south of France as his new destination. This may be because of the upcoming European Championships in France and for him to represent his country he needs first team football. Bordeaux can offer this to him.
The right back has struggled to find first team football at Arsenal since going from Newcastle, after youth sensation Hector Bellerin came through to fight for his place at the North London club and hasn’t looked back since. This move to Bordeaux suits all party as Debuchy gets game time, Arsenal lose some of their wage budget that has been added to this transfer window with the signing of Egyptian Mohammed Elneny and finally Bordeaux get a highly rated defensive player.
Debuchy has only made 2 premier league appearances this season which is not what a European Championship right back needs. Last season he was a first team regular but since then he has fallen down the pecking order and now looks forward to more football time.
