Arsenal vs Watford – Preview

On Sunday 13th March Arsenal will be hosting Watford at the Emirates stadium in the Emirates F.A Cup Quarter Finals, Arsenal are the current holders and are looking to win the trophy for the third season in a row and saw of Hull city 4-0 in a replay in the 5th round while Watford managed to beat Championship side Leeds United 1-0.

this tie is quite an interesting tie for both teams as Watford in terms of expectations on them this season have done extremely well and looking to secure a top half finish, Watford are in a position where this tie is anything of a bonus for them in terms of where they was expected to come and come with a real chance of wiping out Arsenal’s chances to create history of retaining the F.A cup for a third season. Arsenal come into this game quite low on confidence despite winning 4-0 in the replay at Hull was very disappointing in the first leg at home and look like a side who are struggling to score goals.

Current Form of the Teams :

Arsenal’s Form – Last 10 Games

W – D – W – W – D – L – L – L – D – W

Watford’s Form – Last 10 Games

L – W – W – D – L – W – W – D – L – L

From the current form of both clubs they are both not in the best run of forms coming into this game, Arsenal are without a win in the league since beating Leicester at home in an attempt to kickstart the race to the title but have fallen victim to Manchester United and Swansea and a draw in the North London Derby. Watford are also on a three game run without a win since beating Crystal Palace 2-1 and have suffered a draw to Bournemouth and defeats to Manchester United and Title Favourites Leicester. Due to the reputation to the club Arsenal would be slight favourites in this game and having the home advantage but anyone would be stupid to rule out Watford from having a chance against a Arsenal side who are struggling and have key games in the Champions League against Barcelona to think about.

Result Last Time Around

The last time these two met was on the 17th October and Arsenal walked away from Vicarage Road with all 3 points with a second half masterclass 3-0 Victory with goals from Sanchez, Giroud and Ramsey, at the time this game was played Arsenal was on full form and had most of the squad available to them and showed what they are capable off and Ozil provided 2 of his 18 assists this season in this game. Watford proved they was able to hold back the Gunners until the last 20 minutes and Watford proved why going into this game had conceded 3 goals at home before going into this game, if Arsenal are able to come out with the same confidence as they did in this game they can expect to see a similar result.

Team News

Arsenal are in a tricky situation due to the fact that they are on the verge of the second leg in the Champions League round of 16 game against Barcelona at the Camp Nou and have a 2-0 deficit to turn over. Arsenal are also in a difficult situation with losing Aaron Ramsey to a thigh injury against Hull on Tuesday night adding to an ever-growing list of current injures with first team members Petr Cech, Santi Cazorla, Laurent Koscielny,  Jack, Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlian and Tomas Rosicky. Watford will have the most of the first team squad available with Craig Cathcart facing a late fitness test to try and be ready in time for the game while Jose Manuel Jurado and Joel Ekstrand remain out with calf and a hamstring injury.

My Prediction

I feel that this game is as open as it could be coming into this game with either side not playing to the best with Arsenal also challenging for the title and still being in the Champions League the amount of games being played currently over the last few weeks could come back to hunt them and cause an upset, Watford will have to be at their best to overcome Arsenal who Watford have not beat since the start of the Premier League era. I feel Arsenal are going to have too much on the day and prove why they are 15 games unbeaten in the F.A and are looking to win it for the third season in a row.

Score – Arsenal 3-1 Watford
