Three Football League Players on the move this summer

Since the rise of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, nearly every Premier League team are now looking at the lower leagues of English Football for the next ‘big thing’. I’m going to highlight three players currently playing in the Football League who’ll likely be moving to a Premier League team at some point this summer.

Bradley Dack

As a Gillingham fan I might be a little biased but not many can disagree that midfielder Bradley Dack is going to be playing in the top-flight in the near future. The 22 year-old finished last season with 15 goals and 12 assists to his name, which included a month lay-off with a hamstring injury. Although the Gills failed with their attempt at promotion, having been top of League One at the end of January and eventually finishing fourth, several Premier League clubs are in for the Greenwich-born starlet.

Crystal Palace are the latest club to be in for Dack, with a bid in the region of a £2.5 million. Gillingham rejected a reported bid of the same amount from Championship side Bristol City on transfer deadline day in February.

Rico Henry

18 year-old Rico Henry has been rumoured with a move ever since appearing on the scene for Walsall last season. With the Saddlers being in the top four of League One for the majority of the campaign, it was always going to be a rumour that a teenage starter would be speculated with a move to the Premier League.

Walsall, along with Gillingham, failed in their aim of promotion after being demolished 6-1 on aggregate to Barnsley in the Play-Off semi-finals. As a result, some of the Banks’s Stadium side top talent will be on the move this summer and left-back Rico Henry is almost one of the first names seemingly out the door this transfer window. Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City have been reported to want the youngster in their ranks.

Kemar Roofe

Oxford United recently succeeded in their bid for promotion last season from League Two to the third-tier of English Football. One of the U’s main men for that was attacking midfielder Kemar Roofe. The 23 year-old must have thought his career wouldn’t live up to much after spending four years on-loan at various clubs from West Bromwich Albion.

The Walsall-born playmaker signed for Oxford last summer after impressing during a loan spell the previous season. He was tied down to a three-year contract at the Kassam Stadium and has again been a fascinating player to watch. Scoring 18 goals in 40 appearances for the U’s last term meant Roofe was voted League 2 Player of the Season at the Football League awards. Although he has another two years left on his contract, if he returns to that form from the first kick next season, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kemar Roofe be the subject of a deadline day saga.

Thank you for reading and let me know who else could be on the move this summer!
