The FA Cup, famous for giant killings and cup upsets. The first round has always seen many Non-League sides knock out higher placed opposition and in this article, I’ll be looking at some of the fixtures that have the potential to see a cup upset.
Eastleigh vs Swindon Town:
The Friday night televised games tend to throw up a few cup upsets, most notably Salford’s win over Notts County in front of the BBC cameras. In last year’s FA Cup Eastleigh beat League One opposition in Crewe Alexandra, alternatively, Swindon Town have been knocked out in the FA Cup in the first round for four consecutive seasons.
Gillingham vs Brackley Town:
The last time these two met (two seasons ago) Brackley took the game to a replay after a dismal showing from the Gills, in the replay Gillingham did all they could to come away with the win, they hit the post an incredible three times and had a perfectly good goal wrongly disallowed for offside before Brackley grabbed a 1-0 win, their first ever over a league side. Brackley Town have only lost once in their last six games, with Gillingham losing four of theirs.
MK Dons vs Spennymoor Town:
With MK Dons on such bad form and with the recent sacking of Karl Robinson the ‘dons’ are a club in crisis, this acts as a massive chance for Spennymoor who will look at this tie as a cup final.
