It’s been almost two months since Newcastle United’s last defeat, a 2-0 loss at the hands of Wolves. Since that result the team have played 10 matches and won 9 of those. But can they maintain another 100% month?
2 league matches and 1 EFL Cup match lie between now and next month. These matches will come against Leeds United, Blackburn Rovers and Hull City in the quarter final of the EFL Cup. The first match comes against Leeds United who look the hardest team in the fixture list. The team from West Yorkshire are currently in 6th place coming off a 3-2 victory over promotion rivals Norwich. Looking at their results they have started poorly, however they are slowly but surely improving their form. Obviously Newcastle would’ve preferred to play them a month or two ago but this match is certainly winnable. I think we’ll be able to get a win but it will be a tough match. Next the toon face Blackburn Rovers at home. Blackburn currently sit in 23rd place, one place below the bottom. Blackburn have been on a poor run lately, only winning one match out of their last six. This is a perfect time to face them as confidence will be low in the dressing room and their heads will have dropped. This will give Newcastle the opportunity to really flex their muscles and show why they deserve to be top dogs in England’s second tier. So for this match I’m predicting a very comfortable victory over the Lancashire side. So I believe we can continue our unstoppable run in the league going. Finally the last match in November is a trip to Hull in the quarter final of the cup. It’s also a controversial return home for ex-Hull man Mohamed Diamé. The Senegalese midfielder left the newly promoted Premier League side to join Newcastle United in the Summer. So Diamé will definitely be in for a rough night from the Hull home support. Hull currently sit in 18th place in the Premier League, above struggling Swansea and Sunderland, but have just come off the back of a 2-1 victory over Southampton. However Hull have sustained some massive losses, most notably an embarrassing 6-1 loss over Bournemouth. As long as a full strength side is played this match is certainly winnable, so I predict another win for the Geordie side. However looking at who else is in the draw we will probably end up facing either Liverpool, Arsenal or Manchester United which is a very difficult task. However, in football anything can happen.
