With the Premier League returning after the international break I look over this Saturday’s fixtures with all teams hoping to get some points on the board immediately.
Manchester United vs Arsenal
This being one of the biggest fixtures of the weekend, 4th placed Arsenal travel away to an out-of-form Manchester United. United are sat in 6th with only one win in their last 5 Premier League games, could this be the game when they change their season around and push for a Champions League spot. Arsenal, who are having some trouble with big injuries today, are in a decent run of form picking up 11 points from a possible 18. However, I can see Manchester United claiming the three points for the main reason of being on home soil.
Prediction Manchester United 2-0 Arsenal.
Crystal Palace vs Manchester City
Crystal Palace host one of the most dangerous teams in the Premier League this year, Manchester City. City travel to Selhurst Park on the back of a 1-1 draw at home to newly promoted Middlesborough. The blues would be hoping that they hit back to winning ways immediately after the international break. However, Crystal Palace are not a push over. Palace play football in a lot of different styles, they can move the ball down the middle of the field and they can also exploit the wings with the pace from Andros Townsend and Wilfred Zaha. I can see this being a very difficult game for City with the atmosphere from the ground being rather intimidating.
Prediction Crystal Palace 1-1 Manchester City.
Everton vs Swansea
Everton are showing signs of fantastic football but in some games but just can’t pick up the points. They beat West Ham United in their last game 2-0 at home which could give the hosts a slight advantage over the travelling Swans who currently sit in the relegation zone. Swansea are in trouble this season, a bad run of form has seen them slip into the relegation zone and be in danger of the drop. They have some fantastic players on their books but even they have not been able to help their side as they are currently level on points with Sunderland. This game should be an easy win for Everton unless Swansea pull off an amazing victory which could kick-start their survival campaign.
Prediction Everton 3-1 Swansea City.
Sunderland vs Hull City
This is a relegation fight which could see the points go either way. Sunderland are coming into this game on the back of their first victory in the Premier League this season with a 2-1 win away to Bournemouth. The hosts should have the mental advantage with this victory in their bag and should be looking to take all three points from this game. Hull, who had a tremendous start to the campaign see themselves sitting in 18th. A bad run of form from the tigers has cost them a lot of points and seen them slip down the table. If Hull are wanting to bounce back from their poor run of form they are going to have to do it here against bottom of the league. I can see the points being shared in this game, I can’t call a winner in this match.
Prediction Sunderland 2-2 Hull City.
Southampton vs Liverpool
The Saints face a trip from the league leaders Liverpool, who have been in fine form recently. Unbeaten in their last 10 games, Liverpool will be hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table. Jurgen Klopp has completely transformed the team into a powerhouse and I can’t see any teams stopping Liverpool this season. Southampton have been a consistent team this season who currently sit mid-table in 10th. However, I can’t see the hosts coming away with the points today. Liverpool are too dominant on the ball. The only worry for Liverpool is that star men Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana have both picked up knocks and are unlikely to face Southampton at St Mary’s this afternoon. Could this give the Saints some belief?
Prediction Southampton 1-4 Liverpool.
Stoke City vs AFC Bournemouth
This will be a very tight game. Both teams find themselves in the bottom half of the table with only one point separating the two. The hosts Stoke City came away from their last game with a point away at the London Stadium. The Potters will be looking to take all three points against a Bournemouth side who gave Sunderland their first win of the season last time out. Stoke’s attack is very dangerous but no one has been able to pounce on the chances given to them. On loan striker Wilfred Bony will be looking to get some goals under his belt with only scoring 2 goals from 9 appearances. This is a tight game to call but I can see the hosts sneaking it.
Prediction Stoke City 1-0 AFC Bournemouth.
Watford vs Leicester City
Watford host the Premier League champions this afternoon with both teams not doing anything special this season. Watford who got destroyed 6-1 against Liverpool in their last game are hoping to bounce back against Leicester City who have not hit the heights of last season. Leicester City are looking to come away with all three points here and bounce back from a disappointing 2-1 loss to West Brom in their last game. Jamie Vardy will be looking to continue his good form after his man of the match performance against Spain midweek for England. This is a very close game to call but I can see the champions come away with the victory.
Prediction Watford 0-2 Leicester City.
Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United
The derby. Tottenham Hotspur host their rivals West Ham United this afternoon. Tottenham have been continuing the good form from last season in the Premier League with the side being the only unbeaten side in the league this season. Spurs sit in 5th and can climb to third if results go their way. West Ham are coming to try to spoil the party for Tottenham. The Hammers have had a poor start to the season but they are looking to kickstart their revival against their rivals. With players like Dimitri Payet and Aaron Cresswell, both playing at international level during the week, the Hammers will be looking to try to exploit Tottenham’s weaknesses. This will be a fantastic game to watch but I can’t see Spurs losing this one.
Prediction Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 West Ham United.
