Welcome, a very merry TFFmas from all of us here at the blog. As we head into the holiday season, there is plenty to look forward to both on the pitch and off it and we are looking forward to the month ahead. This December we will be running the 25 Days of TFFmas, every day up until the big day we will be publishing Christmas wishlists from members of our team for what they would like their club to get for Christmas.

On this eighth edition, we spoke to TFF’s Lewis Batchelor about his view on what Weston Super Mare should get for this very bitter Christmas for the club.

The Club

Weston-Super-Mare finished 16th in the National League South last season, four points above the relegation places. Striker Scott Wilson bagging 19 goals which would prove to be his last for the club, for now, moving on a free Transfer to Eastleigh in the transfer window. This season, however, it’s a slightly more worrying story as relegation seems to be a very viable option. After sacking Ryan Northmore, who was replaced by Scott Barlett, they expected results to take a turn for better, however, a 2-1 loss to bottom of the table Bishops Stortford swiftly put the hopes of a charge up the table to bed. Outside of the league, Weston have been knocked out of the Fa Trophy, losing to Dartford 4-2 at home, even with Dartford playing with 10 men. They can only hope that there are better things to come, maybe some of Lewis’ wishes will come true?

Wish 1 – Get striker Scott Wilson back

“We can’t find the back of the net and Scott Wilson did just that last season before we sold him to Eastleigh. He’s a fantastic striker, his pace is always a huge threat, he finishes the ball superbly, very calm when in a shooting chance, scores goals on his own as well. 19 goals last season in the league alone I think it was. Incredible talent.”

This is a huge ask from Lewis, however, this is football, stranger things have happened, such as Weston picking up a 4-3 victory away at Eastbourne Borough.

Wish 2 – The club put a bus/coach on to go to the away matches

“There’s nothing done by the club to help grow away support, so we should have a supporters coach to away matches at a reasonable price. By putting the coach on the club would be more with the supporters creating a better relationship with us supporters but most importantly this will benefit the players having more support on the clubs travels on a regular basis. A lot of teams in the conference south put a supporters coach or even minibus if the numbers aren’t always there but are club doesn’t do any of this. However most importantly the price must be reasonable otherwise, some will opt to use cars if it’s cheaper. But not everyone drives to the home games and don’t want to be driving really away as it’s a long day so putting a coach on regularly would certainly increase numbers. Maybe even do a so many games journey ticket or if you go to soo many games you get the next one free or at half price.”

Wish 3 – Up to date Social Media

“The club never keeps the supporters up to date on Facebook page or in general the club website, it’s often for ourselves to find out by either other website or by word of mouth. The club posts everything up as soon as they have the news and post everything up regardless, not worrying about what people might respond. It’s an absolute joke. By posting everything up regardless of whether its deemed to be “positive” or “negative” and as soon as they have the news as this would stop all rumours floating about. Also, it would give us supporters a better feel if we get everything first handoff of the club rather from elsewhere otherwise it’s like what have the club got to hide and why are they doing this. We all love the club but they are absolute nightmare whenever any news comes to them. I end up getting everything from the conference website its soo much easier and often released before the club actually officially release it which is beyond a joke. Why are the club waiting soo long before releasing things? There’s a huge lack of communication in general from those in the club to all supporters.”
