25 Days of TFFMas

All I want for Christmas… Day 14

Welcome, a very merry TFFmas from all of us here at the blog. As we head into the holiday season, there is plenty to look forward to both on the pitch and off it and we are looking forward to the month ahead. This December we will be running the 25 Days of TFFmas, every day up until the big day we will be publishing Christmas wishlists from members of our team for what they would like their club to get for Christmas.

We’re back up to Scotland for the 14th edition of the series, this time to Reece McNay and what his team, Rangers, need for Christmas this year.

The Club:

Rangers FC have been through some troubled times recently, but the highlight of the past few years has been achieving promotion back into the top flight of Scottish football. This not only allowed them to be back where they belong, but all allowed them to reignite the rivalry with Celtic. The Gers currently sit second in the table, 11 points behind Celtic (who also have two games in hand). Considering this is their first season back, many would call this a success so far. You could argue however, they’re pushing well above their weight and, considering Celtic’s dominance of the league in Rangers absence, they never had a chance of winning it in the first place. In other competitions, Rangers have drawn Motherwell in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup and lost in the Semi Final to Celtic (who else?) in the Betfred Cup 1-0. However, their lowest point of the season came early on, a 5-1 defeat to Celtic at Celtic Park (including a hat-trick from Moussa Dembele) in September left a sour taste in the mouth of the fans, something they should’ve really seen coming.

Wish 1: Defenders that can defend

“We seem to have a problem that our defenders are incapable of keeping a clean sheet. so we really need a new defender who can actually defend. This will help us stop us leaking goals, something that has been at the heart of us dropping many points this season.”

Wish 2: To stop 4-3-3

“Warburton seems to always play 4-3-3, I’d love it if he decided to change formation. We might be able to break down teams that are just defending against us if we swapped formation and hopefully, try to push on to the top where we belong.”

Wish 3: To sign a fast striker

“We have good strikers but none of them are fast so that we can play balls in behind. We need a fast striker who is able to take it past players and is composed in 1 on 1 situations, this way we can maybe start outscoring teams if we don’t get a new defender. We might score a lot more goals from it, something we really need due to our leaky defence.”
