I got the privilege to interview Victor Maffeo, he is a Wigan Athletic u-16 player and has big potential for a career within the game.

What’s this difference between Spanish football and English football?

“There are a lot of differences. In England, it’s more physical, playing in England is amazing for us. In Spain, we don’t have grass fields, we always play on astro, so that is amazing. Weather as well is better here for playing football”

Do you prefer English football to Spanish football, and why?

“I prefer English football now because it’s more important to get the physical experience now when you are a young for after so you can adapt better”

How does being a player affect your home/social life?

“It doesn’t affect my social life so I’m not worried about that. I don’t have any problems either at home because my parents always support me so it doesn’t affect me now”

What’s it like growing up in a foreign country with a different culture?

“The first year is difficult. When I came to England, I didn’t have anything. No friends, it was only my family that was here me so I always got the support I needed from my family. After the first year, I made many friends, so now, if I need anything, I know they are there for anything”

If you could choose any team, who would you play for?

“I don’t know because I am so happy at Wigan Athletic right now so I want to keep focused at Wigan and do the things right”

Finally, If you could describe Pablo (Maffeo) in one word, what would it be and why?

“Amazing. He is my reference right now so I admire him and I’m trying always to learn about him”

I would like to thank Victor for taking his time to answer my questions.
