There have been a lot of transfer rumours regarding Newcastle United. Namely, Ben Osborn, Modou Barrow and Tim Krul. In this article, I’ll be running through three transfer rumours surrounding Newcastle.
This rumour comes from The Chronicle and says that Newcastle are leading the race to sign Swansea winger, Modou Barrow. The Gambian international is a target for Rafa Benitez on loan if he is unable to sign Andros Townsend. Barrow has made 55 appearances for Swansea but has only scored one goal for the Welsh side. I don’t know about you, but that worries me. He’s a player with a lot of pace but no much end product. Check out this analysis from Swansea fan Jackson on twitter.
Personally, I’m not convinced on this transfer and I think we could do better. But who knows, I wasn’t sure on Murphy and Clark and look how they turned out.
Newcastle shot-stopper Tim Krul has been linked with a shock move to Chelsea amidst reports from The Guardian that Asmir Begovic’s Chelsea future is hanging in the balance. Bournemouth are leading the charge to sign the Bosnian but Chelsea will only let the deal go through if they can find a suitable number two for Thibaut Courtois. The Dutchman went out on loan to Ajax last summer but is yet to feature in a game. Chelsea have been drawing up a list of names and Krul has made that list. Other targets include AC Milan’s Diego Lopez. This deal looks unlikely and will only happen if Ajax decide to cut Krul’s loan short. Story from The Chronicle
According to reports from The Chronicle, Newcastle have been keeping tabs on Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Osborn. The 22-year-old has scored once and set up five goals. Osborn recently scored a fantastic free kick when he flicked the ball up and smashed it into the net. You can watch that here:
Rafa Benitez has instructed scouts to keep regular updates on the young midfielder, however, it looks unlikely that Newcastle will go for Osborn this window as Rafa is prioritising a winger. Newcastle have already bought two Nottingham Forest players in Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow so we could be in for a good deal judging off those two (if the transfer goes through obviously.)
The transfer window closes in a week and it’s coming up to crunch time. Now’s the time to start making signings. But at the end of the day, I’m sure Rafa knows what he’s doing. In Rafa we trust.
