It’s that time again. Time for another Somerset Derby. Weston-super-Mare vs Bath City is arguably the most hotly contested derby in Somerset and with both sides being in form, this is surely going to be a memorable match for one set of supporters.
Weston are currently flying in the league, having momentarily pulled themselves away from relegation and look set to carry on climbing the table. In the last eight games, Weston sit fifth in the league’s form table having obtained 16 points from their last available 24 and with Weston sitting 15th in the table, they have the opportunity to climb above Oxford City on goal difference if they fail to pick up a point on Saturday.
Bath City currently sit in 10th spot in the form table, with three wins coming from their last eight games, however, they have drawn four of the last eight. Bath currently sitting ninth in the league table and will be expecting to secure a win over a Weston side who are in form and show no signs of letting up against their Somerset rivals as Seagulls manager Scott Bartlett takes charge of his first Somerset Derby.
Weston- Dayle Grubb
The Weston midfielder has been shifted out to the left in recent seasons, where his set pieces, direct running and finishing ability from inside and outside the box has seen him become a legend down at the Woodspring Stadium. Grubb has eight league goals for Weston this season, taking him first in that statistic and with the way he runs at defenders, committing them before breezing past them, it seems that every time he receives the ball now, he is capable of creating something out of nothing.
Bath- Andy Watkins
The Bath City striker has endured something of an up and down career over at Twerton Park since signing from Truro City in 2012. Watkins has made 121 appearances in his Bath career and scored 34 goals. He currently has 8 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions this season. With the striker netting a brace against rock bottom Margate last Saturday, Watkins will be keen to hit the net again as he needs two more goals to hit double figures this season.
With Weston having the advantage of the home support and being the in-form side heading into this clash, I feel as if Weston will have enough to see themselves through against their Somerset rivals on Derby Day. Therefore, my prediction is Weston 3-1 Bath.
