Is it time for Rooney to go?

Jose Mourinho stated:

“Of course I can’t guarantee he will be here. I can’t guarantee that I’m here next week, how can I guarantee that a player is here next season?”

The 31-year-old has been at Manchester United for 13 years after joining from Everton in 2004, the club which handed him his first professional contract.

He has certainly been a success at Old Trafford as Rooney has scored a record-breaking 180 Premier League goals for Manchester United and 250 overall.

Wayne Rooney is the longest-serving and probably the most loved player at the club but his time appears to be coming to an end. Although, he is currently contracted to United until 2019 and has said that he wants to see out his deal.

Rooney has scored only got five goals so far this season and has not been a regular starter. The England international has played just 924 minutes in the Premier League so far this season.

Mourinho said in October that Rooney was “going nowhere” and was certain he was staying. Jose also said: “I would never push – or try to push – a legend of this club to another destiny”.

“So you have to ask him if he sees himself staying at the club for the rest of his career or if he sees himself moving.” added Jose. This whole situation now seems to be in the hands of Wayne Rooney, whether he wants to stay or wants to do something else with his career.

Rooney has been linked with a host Chinese clubs such as Tianjin Quanjian and there could well be movement on this story very soon as the CSL transfer window ends in a week’s time. Rooney could be off in a week, end of the season or might not be off at all.
