The fixtures have been announced and United have been handed a favorable start. So let’s take a look out where United can get points.
Game 1 – Tottenham Hotspur (H)
Newcastle will make their return to the top flight against Spurs. In a repeat of United’s final game in the Premier League.
Whilst a 5-1 victory seems unlikely. There is no reason United can’t get a positive result in front of a bouncing ground.
Spur’s midfielder Eric Dier gave a warning they would be out for revenge. However, it will be 50/50 whether they can do so.
Therefore I predict it will be a point apiece to start the season.
Game 2 – Huddersfield Town (A)
Newcastle will return to the place of one of their best performances of last season after just two. However, this may prove difficult for the Magpies.
The Terriers will be facing their first Premier League home game. Huddersfield’s fans will bouncing and may take another Benitez masterclass to win.
However, this one maybe a bridge too far for United.
Game 3 – West Ham United (H)
This will be the moment when United truly see which direction the season will go. Against a side which Newcastle will need to beat if they want to have a successful season.
West Ham were hit and miss last season. I believe that won’t change with anything significant happening yet in East London.
For me, the Magpies will get their first win in this one.
Game 4 – Swansea City (A)
In past seasons, trips to the Liberty have been on the whole mixed. United were impressive in their first game there in 2012, Papiss Cisse scoring two.
However, United have had howlers. Being beaten their 2-0 in 2015 in a terrible performance for McClaren’s side.
This time with Swansea’s struggles last season. United may just snatch a win here.
Game 5 – Stoke City (H)
This is another fixture which could go either way. Stoke have been decent in recent seasons. Games such as these have been the difference between a good and bad season.
Wins against sides like West Ham and Stoke can propel United into the top ten. However, will United be able to pull it off.
This one maybe a draw which wouldn’t be a bad result.
These could all change due to the players brought in to each club. However, the return to the Premier League will certainly be fun.
