Mesut Ozil has a year left on his current contract at Arsenal. Will he sign a new deal or move elsewhere?
In September 2013, Arsenal completed the club record signing of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for £42.4m. Since then, Ozil has become a consistent and important member of the squad making 116 Premier League appearances. He has also scored 23 league goals and provided 42 assists.
While Alexis Sanchez, who also has a year left on his contract, is constantly linked with a move away, there is virtually no interest in Mesut Ozil. During last season, Ozil stated that he would make his decision based on Arsene Wenger. The manager has signed a new two-year contract but Ozil is still yet to commit.
It’s clear that Ozil loves living in London and playing for Arsenal so why would he want to leave?
Even though Ozil’s future is still up in the air, his recent interview for Arsenal’s website was quite revealing. The German international was very complimentary about Alexandre Lacazette, the club’s new record signing. He described him as a “class striker” who is “always hungry for goals and ice-cold.”
Ozil also went on to say:
“I hope that he’ll be able to take us further with his goals. I’m sure he’s happy to be here and to be able to play with us, and we’re pleased to be able to assist him and help him to score as many goals as possible.”
It seems like Ozil might be staying in North London for a while longer, even if it just to assist Lacazette and help him score plenty of goals for the Gunners.
In my opinion, Mesut Ozil will still be an Arsenal player when the transfer window closes on August 31st. With no other clubs currently declaring an interest in him, the power is in Arsenal’s hands.
