Jacob Murphy has lit up the Championship in recent years, despite Norwich’s disappointing attempt at regaining their Premier League status.
Murphy featured in 32 appearances for Norwich last season. Murphy contributed six assists and nine goals for Norwich.
Thats a fantastic contribution in a disappointing campaign. Furthermore, Murphy is only 22 years old with a bright future ahead of him.
From these facts it’s clear why Benitez would want to recruit him to the cause. Furthermore, the Londoner, through his grandparents, has a special hotspot for the club.
With pictures of himself and his brother in Newcastle shirts as a youngster. This has made Murphy allegedly push for the move.
The Norwich star scored home and away against Newcastle last season. As a youngster Murphy won the 2012/13 FA Youth Cup.
A year later he would make his debut for the first team against Fulham. He gained his first assist putting through his brother to score against Crawley.
Murphy would go on to have loan spells at Swindon and Southend, as well as being on loan at Blackpool causing a stir for remarks made about his side’s form.
There were also loan deals at Scunthorpe, Colchester and Coventry. However it was last season when he returned to Norwich where he impressed.
The Londoner scored his first goal against Blackburn in a 4-1 win. He would go on to have a successful season for the Canaries.
Murphy also has had an accomplished youth career at international level. Murphy first played in the Under 18s progressing through the England ranks to Under 21’s.
He had featured in the semi final run in this years Under 21 European Championships. This is a great chance to get a great young player.
Now it’s up to Newcastle to get the job done.
