It has been a busy window for Rotherham United’s manager Paul Warne before he leads the club in their League One campaign, following their relegation from the Championship last season. However, is there still a weak link in the Millers squad?

Rotherham United have added a plethora of attacking options so far this transfer window which includes former Fleetwood Town striker David Ball on a two-year deal. Ball played a key role in Fleetwood’s success last season scoring 14 goals and gaining 7 assists.

The South Yorkshire side’s other signings are:
> Ryan Williams – RM – from Barnsley
> Darren Potter – CM – from MK Dons
> Jamie Proctor – ST – from Bolton Wanderers
> Michael Ihiekwe – CB – from Tranmere Rovers
> Josh Emmanuel – RB – Ipswich Town (loan)
> Kieffer Moore – ST – Ipswich Town (loan)
> Alex Bray – RM – Swansea City
> Semi Ajayi – CB – Cardiff City

Some Rotherham fans appear to still believe that another centre back may be required, which isn’t surprising after last season’s woes.

However, I believe that it is the Millers’ central-midfield position that needs strengthening the most.

The club does have versatile players such as winger Joe Newell at their disposal who can play a central-midfield role if deemed necessary, however, the club does have just three natural central-midfielders.

I believe that all three of these central players – Lee Frecklington, Will Vaulks and new signing Darren Potter are all good enough to play at the level, however, my concern is if the squad was to sustain an injury to one of these midfielders, the team would hence suffer.

Moreover, fans’ favourite Lee Frecklington did indeed spend a frustrating period of last season out due to injury and this can only have hindered the belated Millers team last season. It also highlights the importance of the additional depth that another midfielder would add.

Warne’s men recently played Sheffield United in a friendly and some would argue unluckily lost 2-1.

Rotherham United start their campaign back in League One away at Fleetwood Town Saturday August 5th, 3pm KO.
