The opening weekend of the National League kicks off this weekend starting with a clash between two promotion hopeful’s aiming to start the season with a victory as Macclesfield travel to The Racecourse.
The Silkmen have had mix fortunes in pre-season with a completely new look team in comparison to the side that started their last game of the season in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium as well as having Wes Brown, Shay Given and Alex Bruce train with th em. With victories at the Moss rose against Football League outfits, Bury and Crewe Alexandra, however were defeated by National League North Side Stockport 5-2.
Meanwhile Wrexham’s new look side travelled o Portugal over pre-season before returning to face sides such as Stafford Rangers who they beat 2-1 at Marston Road, as well as recently drawing at Chorley 1-1, and a convincing 2-0 victory at Altrincham also.
Wrexham will be confident going into the game after such a positive pre-season, in a game which may see new striker Chris Holroyd involved against his former team Macclesfield Town, he was the clubs top goalscorer last season with 13 goals.
Macclesfield have made 15 summer signings already with plenty of time until the transfer window is yet to shut, one stand out signing who will want to make an instant impact will be Elliot Durrell a former Wrexham man who was signed from Chester, other key signings include Scott Burgess from Bury on loan, defender Keith Lowe, former Birmingham City midfielder Koby Arthur and striker Tyrone Marsh from Dover Athletic.
