Aleksandar Mitrovic is becoming the forgotten man at Newcastle. Despite looking like a superstar for Serbia, Mitrovic has struggled since arriving at Newcastle.
So can he manage to get back into the side…
Joselu has started well in a Newcastle shirt. Two goals since the start of the season cemented his place in the starting line-up with Gayle just behind him.
For Mitrovic, this makes it a difficult task. The Championship’s second top goal scorer last season is struggling to find a place in the side. Rightly putting the Serbian in the third choice striker.
So is there a future for Mitrovic? If the Liverpool game is anything to go by the answer is no. The Serbian was left out of the team. It seems as though Benitez has given Mitrovic his last chance.
The elbow against West Ham could be costly to his United career. One of a catalogue of stupid moments he has had in a United shirt. The Serbs behaviour has been the problem for United.
When he seems to get a run in the side he ruins it with a suspension. The red card against Arsenal certainly set the precedent for his Newcastle career.
However, there is no doubt that Mitrovic has the talent and ability needed. Perhaps a way in could be through the Perez position. Mitrovic can hold up the ball and make chances, like his assist for Serbia during the break.
Surely he could do a better job than Ayoze Perez and also Mitrovic can do a better job in front of goal. Throughout the season, United will find it difficult to score goals.
Joselu is efficient however isn’t the answer up front. Mitrovic can add goals which can help United. Unfortunately for him, this seems a long shot and Mitrovic may have blown his last chance.
For United that is a shame.
