FA Cup 1st Round – Leatherhead FC vs Billericay Town – Match Preview.

The eagerly anticipated FA Cup first round kicks off this weekend; and for the first time in 11 years, The Tanners will be involved. Leatherhead take on Billericay in the first round of the FA Cup at Fetcham Grove on Sunday 5th November 2017 at 2pm. The last time Leatherhead competed at this stage of the competition was in 2006, when they were defeated by Torquay 2-1.

A crowd of around 2000 is predicted to be in attendance for the fascinating affair at The Grove. Leatherhead beat Margate 2-1 in the final qualifying round due to late goals from Jack Midson and Sammy Moore which set up the enthralling contest against Billericay. It is expected that Leatherhead will have a full squad available. Billericay, on the other hand, beat Brackley Town 2-1 in a replay to secure their place in the first-round proper. Ricay are managed by controversial Glenn Tamplin and have ex-Premier League players Paul Konchesky, Kevin Foley, Jermaine Pennant and Jamie O’Hara.

History

It will be a difficult test for The Tanners as Billericay sit 3rd in the Bostik Premier League, whilst Leatherhead are currently 18th. The last time the two clubs met Billericay were victorious 1-0 in the league. The fans will be in full force at The Grove though as coverage of the match will also be on the BBC. A win for either side could set up a match against a team in the Football League, so get down to The Grove to support the tanners.
