When Jacob Murphy signed for Newcastle, it was expected that the Norwich star would play a huge part. However, it’s November and Murphy has hardly completed a game in the Premier League.

What is even more baffling is his atrocious displays when turning out for the Magpies. The young Englishman has hardly had a sniff since arriving. Despite this though, when he has featured, his absence has been justified.

Against Bournemouth, he was desperately poor. Avoiding challenges and miscontrolling balls, adding to the pressure United were under.

It is fair to say that Murphy weakened the team when he came on.

When he started against Swansea, he appeared poor and missed a huge chance in a game where there were some many great performers.

That leaves the question why did Rafa buy him? In a window when money was hard to come by Benitez spent £13 million.

Surely he wasn’t needed. With Rolando Aaron’s another good young English winger in the squad. However, Benitez doesn’t seem to fancy the winger with him hardly featuring so far this season despite a goal in the Carabao Cup.

Jacob Murphy featured in that game and also disappointed there as well. However, it is still early days in his Newcastle career and whilst it’s not been a promising start. Murphy may still come good for the Magpies. However, he looks along the similar lines of previous wingers Florian Thauvin and Remy Cabella.

Similar to the Frenchmen, Murphy is a flashy promising winger however for his sake we must hope he doesn’t continue this way. Murphy may be struggling with the step up to his boyhood club.

Tthe worrying sign is that Benitez spent so much money on the youngster and clearly doesn’t believe he has the ability. If he can’t do it now when will he be able to.
