The international break is upon us. Teams have been chosen, but have the right teams been picked? Who really deserved a call up for England?

England Team

England have friendlies against Germany on the 10th November and Brazil on the 14th. This is the chance to change the squad up and give other players a chance. With Harry Kane, Harry Winks, Dele Alli, Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph and Jordan Henderson all out of the England squad, surely this is the chance for Jonjo Shelvey and Jamaal Lascelles to be called up right? Wrong, instead England manager Gareth Southgate called up Jack Cork, Jake Livermore, Tammy Abraham, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Joe Gomez. All making there England debut.

Shelvey and Lascelles

Duo Jonjo Shelvey and Jamaal Lascelles have both been a crucial part in the Newcastle squad. Both showing how good they actually are. By getting Newcastle promoted back to the Premier League and currently maintaining a mid-table position. Shelvey has impressed throughout the year. With injuries in the England squad it looked likely that Shelvey would get an England call up. However Jack Cork and Jake Livermore were chosen instead. Despite the fact Jake Livermore has had a bad start to the season with the Baggies who haven’t won a game since August. Many Newcastle fans were shocked by this as yet again Jonjo Shelvey is over looked, this was a perfect opportunity for Shelvey to join the squad.

Another player Newcastle fans will be disappointed didn’t make it into the England team is Jamaal Lascelles. The Newcastle captain has had an outstanding two seasons being dominant in defence. Yet also got over looked by the England manager. Although Lascelles didn’t get chosen for the squad this time with his talent and performance, it shouldn’t be long before he does. However is it also a good thing that these two Newcastle stars didn’t get called up? With both players being vital to the Newcastle squad, them not being involved in the international break will help keep up their fitness and avoid any injuries. With both players getting over looked it is likely they will try and improve their performance in the aim of getting into the squad the next time.
