Despite it only being December, the Carabao Cup looks Manchester United’s main hope of silverware this season. Neighbour and rivals Manchester City have blown away the Red Devils in the Premier League and look a good bet for domestic glory. Also, still in the Carabao Cup are Arsenal and Chelsea and so this is a massive match for United to progress to the Semi-Final stage.

Therefore, any advantage the Red Devils can get over their opponents is massive, especially considering they play Bristol City, one of the most impressing teams in the championship this season. The boost of Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s return to the first team should help spark a mini-revival of confidence within the Man United squad and fan base.

Mkhitaryan started the season confidently but struggled to maintain his form into October and November. Jose Mourinho then dropped the Armenian in order for him to recover the form that he had shown in August and September. Despite it being a while since Mkhitaryan’s last major performance, his presence in the squad against Bristol City may just inspire the team to victory.

Mkhitaryan is undoubtedly a quality player yet has this match to prove to everyone, including his boss, just why he deserves to play regularly for Manchester United.
