On Saturday the 23rd December, at 3:00, Newcastle United take on West Ham United at the London Stadium. A must win game for both teams as they come head to head just two days before Christmas Day.

A must win game for both teams, a vital three points. Both teams are struggling, trying to escape and avoid the relegation zone. Newcastle only picking up one point in nine games, a draw against West Bromwich Albion. Whereas West Ham struggled at the start of the season but seem to have hit some form in the last three games a win against Chelsea, draw against Arsenal and a win against Stoke City.

Rafa Benitez and the Newcastle squad have been struggling recently to win games, with a very poor defence and a lack of energy and enthusiasm Newcastle haven’t won a game in nine. Adding to this, one of the Toon’s best midfielders Jonjo Shelvey is suspended for the game after he was shown a double yellow card against a 1-0 loss against Everton. With the pressure on Newcastle to win and a 3-0 win against West Ham earlier in the season, Newcastle will be pushing for a victory which would get them out of the drop zone. A Newcastle takeover is looming which fans are hoping happens before the transfer window opens in January. In order for Newcastle to drastically improve their squad with the aim of staying in the Premier League; this take over must happen as soon as possible.

West Ham on the other hand have been on a good run, managing to secure seven points out of a possible nine in the last three games. They impressed many after they beat the champions in a unexpected 1-0 and went on to draw against rivals Arsenal. This comes after appointing David Moyes as manager which has seemingly boosted spirits within the team along with good tactics they’ve managed to win helping them escape the relegation zone and possibly climbing to 12th with a win over Newcastle.

The match could go either way, both teams will be fighting for a win however with the pressure on Newcastle, it is likely they will pushing harder for a win and Rafa Benitez wanting to get back to winning ways with the team. West Ham will be going into this game with high spirits which could lead them to underestimating the Newcastle squad. Because of this my prediction is a 1-1 draw.
