Newcastle’s first half of the season has been a rollercoaster. However, it has left United with the need to buy.
Despite the disappointment in the summer. It appears that Kenedy will be the first deal of the January window.
According to the Daily Mail, the young Chelsea star will sign on loan for United. The report claims Benitez’s contacts helped to secure the deal.
This is further proof of the quality Rafa can bring in. But what can Kenedy bring to the team? And what has he done at Chelsea?
It’s fair to say, he hasn’t done an awful lot for the Blues. Since signing for £6 million in 2015, he has made just 15 appearances.
However, the former Fluminense man has scored a solitary goal against Walsall in last year’s EFL Cup. In his career before that, the Brazilian played for Fluminense and had a spell at Watford whilst at Chelsea.
Whilst only making the solitary appearance for Watford. Kenedy featured 20 times for Fluminense scoring twice. Pretty impressive stats in the competitive Brazilian division for a left back.
In comparison to our other left backs such as Paul Dummett, these are overall better stats. However, Dummett is a far more experienced player in the Premier League having made 67 appearances.
That’s almost double the amount that Kenedy has featured in, in his entire career. However, Newcastle do need cover in this position.
Chancel Mbemba, a natural centre back, has been forced in recent weeks to cover in that position. Despite his overall success in his performances in the position.
However, it must be said it would be better to have a more natural backup. Furthermore, with rumours of Mbemba’s impending departure from the club.
Kenedy looks a solid acquisition but looks in the similar mould to that of Manquillo. This could be a similar deal.
