Manchester United are now frontrunners to sign Alexis Sanchez but if the deal goes through, Arsenal want Henrikh Mkhitaryan in return.
Alexis Sanchez’s future at Arsenal has been under scrutiny for many months. It seems that the saga is finally coming to an end with both Manchester clubs interested. According to Goal, however, Manchester City have pulled out with Manchester United now expected to seal the deal.
The Guardian have reported that Sanchez wants the move to Manchester United. In order for this to happen, Arsenal would want Henrikh Mkhitaryan in return. The Gunners wanted Mkhitaryan in 2016 when he joined Man United. He has not been at his best since coming to Old Trafford and when Mourinho was asked about Mkhitaryan’s future, he said: “My approach to players is that every player has a price.”
While Mkhitaryan would not replace the Chilean international, he could be a good signing for the club. Sanchez did not travel with the squad to face Bournemouth. After Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat, manager Arsene Wenger said that his future will be decided “in the next 48 hours”.
Sanchez should have left in the summer when Manchester City wanted him, a deal that would have been beneficial for both parties. Letting the saga drag on for so long has not helped Arsenal or Sanchez.
Sanchez has not been prolific in front of goal this season, scoring just seven goals in 19 Premier League appearances. It’s clear that he no longer wants to be an Arsenal player so doing the deal with Man United this month would make sense, especially from a financial point of view. After all, it’s not the first time Arsenal have sold their best player to Man United.
