Tottenham Hotspur are set to reignite their interest in Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha this summer, according to the Mirror.
The North London club, who have shown interest in the Ivorian winger in the past, are set to launch a fresh bid in the summer. Spurs are confident of it being third time lucky in their pursuit of Zaha.
Spurs face competition from Chelsea and Manchester City who have also shown interest in the 25-year-old talisman. it would be a major coup if Spurs managed to sign him ahead of their ‘Big Six’ rivals.
If Zaha moved to Spurs in the summer, this would be his second chance at a big club. Zaha left Palace in 2013 to join Manchester United for an initial £10m and rejoined them in 2015 after two loan spells back in south London.
Last May, Zaha committed his future to Palace by signing a new five-year deal until 2022. With this new deal in place, Zaha’s valuation is likely to be in excess of £50million, more than double the £21m Spurs offered from him last summer.
While Zaha is Palace’s best player, £50m is a lot to pay for him considering he has never hit double figures in his career. Furthermore, Spurs signed Lucas Moura for £23m on Transfer Deadline Day and he has made a promising start to his career in North London, bagging his first goal for the club in the dramatic 2-2 FA Cup draw with Rochdale.
Palace who are just one point above the drop zone with 11 matches to go have not won a league game without Zaha since September 2016. He remains up to a month away from returning after a knee injury sustained against Newcastle earlier in the month. Zaha is crucial to Palace’s hopes of remaining in the Premier League and they won’t let him go without a fight.
