Both Manchester United and Manchester City want to sign Shaktar Donetsk midfielder, Fred.
The 25-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with Manchester City for quite some time and seemed set to join them. However, it now looks like Machester United want to muscle their way in, according to the Daily Mirror.
Fred is valued at over £50million by Shakhtar Donetsk. While Man City see Fred as a long-term successor for Fernandinho, this could be more than the Citizens are willing to pay.
Man United will have no such problem. Jose Mourinho is determined to bolster his squad and really challenge Man City for the title next season and Fred would be a great acquisition. Signing him from under the noses of Man City would make it even sweeter.
The Brazilian midfielder has been at Shakhtar Donetsk for five years. Fred is one of the best players in the Ukrainian Premier League and has also impressed in the Champions League.
Former Arsenal captain Gilberto Silva, who represents Fred, has admitted that Premier League clubs are interested in his client.
Fred is almost certainly joining a Manchester club in the summer. Whether it will be red or blue remains to be seen.
