Chelsea want £62 million for star striker

Chelsea splashed the cash on Spanish striker Alvaro Morata last summer but the Premier League club could already be selling up.

Morata is hoping to complete a move to his former club, and Italian giants, Juventus. The striker has apparently demanded a move away from Stamford Bridge after not living up to expectations this season, and Juventus are hopeful of bringing the 25-year-old back to Turin. Italian media outlet Tuttosport have reported that the London based club are willing to let Morata leave this summer, but only if Juventus are willing to splash out a fee of £62 million.

As for other clubs that are interested, French champions Paris Saint-Germain and German champions Bayern Munich are both looking at the situation with a large amount of money that they are ready to throw in the face of Chelsea if Juventus are not willing to pay the £62 million required.

Juventus are believed to, instead of paying the £62 million, favour a loan deal which would last two seasons (similar to the James Rodriguez loan deal at Bayern Munich). This allows the Italian side to decide whether they would like to keep Morata permanently while it allows Chelsea to bring Morata back if he is performing at a level which they see as good enough for a regular place in the Chelsea team once again.

Morata signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2017 from Real Madrid for an estimated fee of £60 million, but has failed to compete with the likes of Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero and Mohamed Salah for a prominent spot on the top scorer’s list. Chelsea swooped in for Olivier Giroud in the January transfer window, and in recent matches he has proved to be the better fit for the Blues, meaning Morata is left on the bench.

A two-year loan deal would allow Morata to regain the top form that he had discovered at Juventus and Real Madrid with the option of returning to Chelsea if needed.
