Newcastle United

As the end of the 2017/18 season approaches Newcastle take on Spurs away from home for their final away game of the season. Before their last game of the season against Chelsea at home on Sunday the 13th May.

Currently standing 10th in the table on 41 points and safe from relegation just three points behind Leicester City. Newcastle will be looking to secure a win against Tottenham inorder to finish as high in the table as possible. However since the Mapies guaranteed saftey they have lost three games, with no real threat or dire need to secure three points. The teams performance has slacked since their win against Arsenal in April underachieving dramatically compared to their previous games. Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez saying “ It’s not a question of motivation. To stay up with five games to go was a big achievement. We are making mistakes because we don’t have the same need to get points. The teams in the PL are good and if you make a mistake you pay for that.” Despite this Newcastle maintain they will fight to win the remaining games, with Rafa Benitez also saying “It’s a fantastic achievement for this group of players but need to continue to do our best.”

Tottenham Hotspur

On the other hand Tottenham are in dire need for three points; after only winning one of the last four games risking a chance of finishing in the top four. Spurs currently stand one point behind Liverpool with a game in hand, and Chelsea just two points behind Spurs. For Tottenham to secure a top four spot they must ensure that Chelsea don’t gain the two point difference. Doing this by beating Newcastle on Wednesday, which will maintain the two point gap going into the final game of the season which will also be a critical game for Tottenham to win. Unless Chelsea lose against Huddersfield on Wednesday Tottenham must win these games for them to secure a Champions League  place.
