Manchester City will have to improve on their £39million bid if they are to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho.
The current Premier League champions have had a £39million bid rejected for the Italy international with Serie A side Napoli holding out for £52million according to the Mirror.
Jorginho is one of Man City’s top targets for the summer and they would ideally like to get the deal done before the World Cup begins on the 14th of June.
It is widely expected that Napoli’s former coach Maurizio Sarri will be appointed as Chelsea’s next boss and the Serie A outfit believe the Italian will want to bring his compatriot Jorginho with him to Stamford Bridge.
This gives Napoli the upper hand in terms of negotiations as they can hold firm on their asking price of £52million for Jorginho. A bidding war would work in Napoli’s favour as they try and ensure they get the full amount for the midfielder.
Man City are looking for a player who can lessen the burden on the ageing Fernandinho. The Citizens still remain optimistic that they will sign Jorginho and have been working for several months to get the deal over the line.
Guardiola will be determined to retain the title next season and strengthening his squad with the signing of Jorginho should help to make that possible.
