Premier League clubs Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign Xherdan Shaqiri from relegated Stoke City.
After 10 years in the top flight, Stoke City were relegated to the Championship. It is no surprise that their top players will probably wish to remain in the Premier League which will see several of them jump ship.
Shaqiri has played at several clubs around Europe during his career, including Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. Now that Stoke have been relegated, Shaqiri will be on the move once again.
According to the Mirror, the Swiss international, who is going to the World Cup this summer, said: “It is no longer a secret that I will leave Stoke City. I think the Premier League is perfect for me.
“I would love to stay in England, but I do not want to rule anything out.
“It is the best league with the best players – simple.”
The two clubs interested in Shaqiri are Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.
Shaqiri has a £12million release clause which Saints boss Mark Hughes could look to activate to set up a reunion with the player he signed for Stoke.
Spurs are also interested in Shaqiri despite the quality of their current attacking options.
If Shaqiri wants to play regular football, Southampton would be the obvious choice as he would probably start most games for them. However, should he move to Spurs a role on the bench would be more likely.
Since moving to Stoke in August 2015, Shaqiri has scored 15 goals and provided 15 assists in 84 Premier League appearances.
For just £12m, Shaqiri would be a valuable asset for a Premier League club.
