Arsenal are looking to sign Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria for £22m.
In the first summer transfer window, since Arsene Wenger departed and Unai Emery took over, Arsenal are looking to secure some of their transfer targets.
Emery has identified 22-year-old Torreira as part of his summer recruitment plan according to the Daily Mail. Arsenal have been in need of a defensive midfielder for over a decade. A consistent partnership in central midfielder has continuously been an issue for the Gunners over the years.
Torreira is a dynamic and combative defensive midfielder who uses his reading of the game to drive his team forward. While he is a proven ball-winner, there is room for improvement in the final third. He has scored just eight senior career goals.
In the last two seasons at Sampdoria, he has become a key player for the Serie A side and has missed just five league games during that period.
The Uruguayan youngster will be playing for his country at the World Cup and Arsenal would be wise to activate his £22m release clause before the tournament begins. If he has a good tournament, other clubs will start sniffing around and Arsenal could miss out on one of their key targets.
