According to ESPN FC, Manchester City could activate a £20m buy-back clause to re-sign Huddersfield’s Aaron Mooy.
Premier League champions Manchester City may be interested in signing Aaron Mooy again. Mooy was signed by Man City in 2016 from their sister club Melbourne City. However, he never played a game for them before he was loaned to Huddersfield Town for the 2016/17 season.
Mooy impressed so much during his loan spell with the Terriers, playing all but one of their league games, that they signed him permanently after their successful promotion to the Premier League. The Australian midfielder was signed by Huddersfield for a then club-record fee of £8m.
Man City would have the advantage in signing Mooy because of the buy-back clause but they face competition. Premier League clubs Everton, West Ham United and Southampton are all also reportedly interested in signing the 27-year-old.
At the 2018 World Cup, Mooy played in all three of Australia’s group matches. Despite the Socceroos finishing bottom of Group C, Mooy was one of their key players and put in several impressive performances.
Huddersfield are not looking sell Mooy and would not be open to offers but if Man City activated his buy-back clause, they would be powerless to stop his time with Huddersfield coming to an end.
