Match Preview: Stoke City v Arsenal

On Saturday evening Arsenal face Stoke City, a tough opponent in recent seasons. The Gunners have been victorious in three of the last four meetings but have only managed one win at the Bet365 Stadium.

Recent Form

Stoke have had a fairly disappointing season by their standards. The Potters have finished ninth for the last three seasons. They face a battle to repeat that this time around as they are currently 13th. Mark Hughes will want to finish in the top half of the table so they need to improve on last three performances (L1, D2) and this is a great opportunity to do so.

Arsenal on the other hand have recorded two consecutive 2-0 wins against Manchester United and Southampton after their derby defeat against Tottenham Hotspur. The Gunners are three points behind fourth placed Manchester City with a game in hand. Arsene Wenger has certainly not given up on Champions League qualification so they have to win this match.

Team News

Stoke do not have any new injury concerns. Saido Berahino might start after being an unused substitute on his return from illness against Bournemouth.

Arsene Wenger has said Alex Oxlade Chamberlain’s hamstring injury was more fatigue. He should be fit to face Stoke. Laurent Koscielny will be assessed after missing the win against Southampton.

Arsenal must win every game between now and the end of the season to have any chance of finishing in the top four. This will not be an easy fixture by any stretch of the imagination. However Arsenal should be able to win at the Bet365 stadium for just the second time. My prediction is Stoke City 1-2 Arsenal.
