Stourbridge: Glassboys announce prolific striker’s departure

Evo-Stik Premier League side Stourbridge have announced the departure of top-scorer Luke Benbow.

The prolific talisman joins Vanarama National League side Solihull Moors, just a few days after Chris Lait also departed Stourbridge for the Moors.

Benbow proved himself to be a worthy goalscorer in the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division by netting 32 of his 39 season tally of goals in the league campaign.

The tricky striker also scored five goals in the Glassboy’s FA Cup run, including a brace in the Emirates FA Cup First Round replay win over Vanarama National League South side Whitehawk.

Benbow was enjoying his second spell with the Glassboys, having previously spent three seasons at the War Memorial Ground. During that time he scored 56 times as the club reached the play-offs twice.

But Benbow suffered a disappointing 2014/15 season as he was hit by numerous injuries and then poor form in a struggling Stourbridge side, eventually choosing a move away.

However, he returned to Stourbridge last summer and his impressive performances this season led to him collecting the Supporters’ Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Manager’s Player of the Year awards at the Club’s Presentation evening.

In his 181 appearances for Stourbridge, Benbow netted an astonishing 95 times.
