According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, it looks as though Islam Slimani could be on course for a return to Portugal.
Having been signed by Leicester from Sporting in a deal worth €30m back in August 2016 (Transfer Deadline Day), the Algerian striker has since struggled to hold down a regular starting spot but still has a fairly decent record of goals per minute for the East Midlands outfit.
A move in January is on the cards and, as reported by A Bola on Tuesday, the Portuguese outfit (currently second in Primeira Liga) have been monitoring the situation.
Slimani would be a massive help for them in their title run-in as they bid to win their first league title since 2002 and penning his signature would more than delight fans!
A Bola claims the 2013 Algerian Player of the Year feels as though he’s not wanted and has been attracting interest from various clubs, despite not being a regular at King Power.
The good relationship between Sporting and Leicester City is something the former would rely on, given the sale of Adrien Silva to the 2016 Premier League champions (despite the 14-second mishap), and Slimani, this should work in their favour to re-sign Slimani.
But before we see the chances of Sporting winning his signature, its best to wait and see what offers these “interested clubs” table, or maybe Leicester City could even offer a permanent transfer instead! Who knows?!
