After seeing off Luton in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, Newcastle were rewarded with a trip away to either Norwich or Chelsea.
Norwich and Chelsea played out a goalless draw on Saturday night in front of the BT Sport cameras. Rumoured Newcastle target Kenedy featured for the Blues.
The Magpies were obviously hoping for a better draw, especially after drawing Manchester United away in the practice draw.
Newcastle have a dreadful record at Stamford Bridge and also share a similar record at Carrow Road, the home of the Canaries.
United haven’t beat Norwich away from home since 1994 whilst haven’t won in West London since 2012 when Papiss Cisse memorably finished with two sensational goals.
However, many Newcastle fans would prefer a trip to East Anglia with Norwich struggling at home so far this season. Despite this it seems a tough ask for a trip to Carrow Road.
Norwich will need to get a victory at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday the 17th of January. The Blues haven’t been beaten at home since they were defeated by Manchester City at the end of September.
So clearly the replay will be difficult for the Championship side. However, the FA Cup is the one place it could happen with miracles happening only this weekend.
There is certainly proof that smaller sides can get a result at Stamford Bridge against the odds. That certainly gives Newcastle and Norwich fans hope.
However with Newcastle’s past record in the Cup, it would not be surprising to see Norwich beat Chelsea then beat Newcastle.
Both games will be difficult as every game is in the FA Cup. Newcastle saw that on Saturday against Luton. No game is easy especially for Newcastle however as it is the Cup, United can dream.
