According to the German publication, SZ, an agreement will be reached between Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Talks between the two clubs have not reached a positive solution so far, with Borussia Dortmund rejecting two bids from Arsenal which have not met their valuation. However, Dortmund are willing to sell for £60m and an agreement is finally close to being reached.
Aubameyang is desperate to come to the Emirates where he will be reunited with former Dortmund team-mate Henrikh Mkhitaryan who joined the Gunners in a swap deal from Manchester United which saw Alexis Sanchez go the other way.
Aubameyang played the full 90 minutes for Dortmund on Saturday for the first time since 16 December in a 2-2 draw against Freiburg. He failed to score and was widely booed by supporters. Despite this, the Gabon striker has scored 13 goals in 16 Bundesliga appearances this season.
If Aubameyang signs for Arsenal for £60m, it will eclipse the club record fee of £46.5m that Arsenal paid to sign Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon last summer.
While an agreement is close, the transfer will not be sanctioned until Dortmund have a replacement lined up. Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud was thought to be one of the options but it seems London rivals Chelsea will swoop for him instead. Aubameyang would be an excellent replacement for Alexis Sanchez in a deal that is set to go down to the wire.
If Arsenal manage to get this deal over the line and sign Aubameyang, they would have had a very good January transfer window indeed.
