Barcelona make third bid for Chelsea winger

Chelsea winger Willian is wanted by Barcelona who have made a third bid to sign him.

According to Sky Sports News, this is Barcelona’s third bid and it is for more than £55m.

Willian wanted to leave Chelsea when Antonio Conte was in charge but now that he has been dismissed, it remains to be seen whether new coach Maurizo Sarri can convince him to stay.

Jose Mourinho, Willian’s former manager, is also interested in signing him for Manchester United but it is clear that Barca are very keen to get their man. However, Barca are unwilling to go much higher than the £55m offered in their latest bid so if Man United were to start a bidding war, they could miss out.

The 29-year-old Brazilian winger joined the Blues in 2013 from Russian side Anzhi and has scored 44 goals in 236 appearances.

He has been a consistent performer for Chelsea over the years, during good times and bad. In the 2015/16 season when some Chelsea players were accused of downing tools to get Mourinho sacked, Willian was Chelsea’s best player and scooped the Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards as a result.

Despite being used sparingly by Conte last season, he was voted Players’ Player of the Year again highlighting the importance he has within the team.

If Willian signed for Barca, he would be joining fellow Brazilian and former Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho which would help him adjust to life in Spain.
